fileNice 1.1
Thanks to Christian Bloch, fileNice has come out of hibernation with some bug fixes and enhancements. For your file browsing pleasure, Christian has…
- fixed the spaces in folder/filenames issue
- made it work with capitalised extensions
- added subdirectory encoding: This is pretty cool, you can now send out links to subdirectories that are treated as an artificial root level. Clicking the > symbol next to a folder will take you in to browsing that folder.
- UBB code in all file details
- added auto-select text to all the code fields.
- contributed a dark skin
Thanks Christian, you rock.
Additionally, I’ve fixed a security issue with the search. Upgrading is advisable.

I’ve been honoured with being interviewed by eHub about fileNice. Check it out here, and check out the other interviews here.
In other news, Preloaded made it into the NMA most respected list for the fourth year in a row, this year reaching the dizzy heights of 5th. Yep, we’re the fifth most respected interactive agency in the UK. Go us!
Oh, and might as well throw this one in… Google Reader, a Google RSS reader.

Yes, it’s true, it’s finally here. fileNice 1.0 is released.
This version adds some really useful features too including a search facility and sorting of the file lists based on settings in the prefs. There’s a bunch of nerdy tech improvements too which I won’t bore you with. Anyway, have a look for yourself at the demo.
Tiny Finder
If immitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I’m flattered. Tiny Finder is a Perl/CGI fileNice clone, so if you’ve not got PHP on your system it could be worth keeping an eye on.

A small but good and important update. I’ve rewritten the ajax stuff as it wasn’t properly asynchronous before. What this means to the end user is that the browser doesn’t freeze when opening a folder with a lot of files in it. It also means you get a nice “busy” state while it’s doing stuff so the user knows it’s, well, busy.
So, check it out.
Also, I forgot to thank Ross for pointing out the earlier security hole. Thanks Ross.
